ALLIANCE FOR DEMOCRACY IN AFRICA

NEWS ALERT!

(courtesy of Ms. Laura Sager, ADA's Civic Education Program Coordinator)

ADA has the honour to announce four radioshows coming up this January 2010 in The Gambia. The first one will be on Thursday, January 7th, and deals with THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN NATION BUILDING.

The following week, on Thursday, January 14th, FREEDOM OF SPEECH will be the major topic, which includes not only the private sector but also the role of the media.

On Thursday, January 21st, the focus will be on MIGRATION SOUTH-NORTH, discussing the reasons and consequences of illegal migration towards Europe.

Finally, the title of the Thursday, January 28th event will be DEMOCRACY AND ETHNICITY, where the role of tribalism during elections will be discussed.

For the second and third events a controversial discussion is planned. The guest speakers invited shall present their approach to and opinion on the topic. We believe that it is part of the idea of democracy and civic education to give a broad argumentation, even though we don't share all of them. The audience will have the chance to make up their own minds, and discuss within their families and communities.

The goal will be to send copies of the registrations to different community radio stations countywide to spread the messages as far as possible.
